Welcome to A Pretty Posy .co!

Happy Spring 2024! I closed A Pretty Posy .co early last year 2023 and so thoroughly enjoyed free time! But I did miss meeting you wonderful people and creating little works of art with my bouquets. So, I’ve decided to sell a limited number of bouquets this summer. I’ve already gotten a few requests - and yes, I can be bribed with praise. Everyone likes to feel appreciated!

It doesn’t sound like a great business model, but if you happen to find this site, or are a repeat customer, just text me and we’ll see if we can set something up.

Thank you for your patronage all of these years. I have loved meeting you and sharing the joy of gifting beautiful flowers.

Thanks!

Susan

I sell slightly exuberant, unconventional, home-grown flower arrangements mid-July through early-September. My cutting flowers — annuals, perennials, natives, grasses and herbs — are grown outdoors in SW Minneapolis on our 40-foot urban lot.

My bouquets are for fans of locally-grown, seasonally-changing flowers, who are looking to buy that special occasion arrangement, a caring gift for a friend — or a treat for oneself. The mixture is joyfully unexpected and seasonally changing — think of a cottage garden full of handsome flower varieties not found in stores or farmers markets.

Each 18- to 22-inch tall bouquet is custom cut-to-order in the cool of the morning, and artistically arranged in an attractive vase. These fresh flowers are long lasting and packaged to travel and give as a gift.

I invite you to be part of the experience. Come pick up your arrangement at the garden, and see firsthand where your flowers come from.

Thank you for your interest in A Pretty Posy!

About A Pretty Posy

A mini Minnesota garden in a pretty vase — July through September. You get what is blooming that day, in my gardens. Think local, sustainably-grown, fresh and long lasting!

What grows together, goes together — 100+ varieties of perennial, annual and native flowers and grasses create unexpected, ever-changing mixtures of colors and textures. I grow everything I sell, all packed into in-ground gardens and raised beds, planted for both beauty for viewing and production for cutting. Each plant has its own time of season to bloom — it peaks and fades and then something else becomes the hero.

How it goes together is my particular skill, thanks to my design career experience. Changing my medium to floral design, I work with line, texture, color, movement, negative space. It’s a mix of arts and crafts, ikebana and western floral styles — and just natural beauty.

Bouquets contain 20–30 different garden varieties, and these mixtures set A Pretty Posy apart. The usual favorites, i.e., Cleome, Snaps, Zinnias, Cosmos, Lisianthus, Phlox, Dahlias, Mums… and the unusual, i.e., Turtle heads, Globe Thistle, Prairie Coneflowers, Butterfly Weed, Bee Balm, Meadow Rue… along with grasses and ferns, foliage, herbs. I’m always massaging the mix.

My vases come from estate sales, church rummage sale, vintage and thrift stores, friends and clients — chip free and interesting, avoiding the ho-hum. Sometimes included are vacation-gathered beach rocks, colorful vintage marbles or a wrap of birch bark. I might make a floral frog out of chicken wire, or use a stem of Scented Geranium as an armature.

Each Posy is custom cut to order, in the morning or cool evening when the plants are best hydrated, so ordering ahead is important. I make that as easy as possible and accommodate as best as I can.

“The most spectacular bouquet of flowers I’ve ever received!”
